About Fife
Fife is a Scottish council region, historic county, registration county, and lieutenancy area. It is located between the Tay and Forth estuaries, having inland boundaries with Perth and Kinross (the mediaeval counties of Perthshire and Kinross-shire) and Clackmannanshire. St Andrews is a mediaeval town on the northeast coast of Fife. It is well renowned for the University of St Andrews, Scotland’s most ancient university and one of the world’s oldest. It was the old Archdiocese of St Andrews’ metropolis from the 15th century, with St Andrews Cathedral serving as the seat of Scotland’s most senior bishop from the 10th century. St Andrews is also known as the birthplace of golf.
